ANUS Exposure Controversy

Good morning, ANUS supporters. I must make today's announcement with a heavy heart.

Last night, OU's student newspaper, The Post, moderated an official debate between the candidates on every ticket running for Student Senate... well, almost every ticket. While representatives from BARE, PHOENIX, SOS, Student Nation, and TIME all appeared at the debate, perhaps many of you noticed that ANUS was nowhere to be found. This may be shocking to hear, but it is only fair that I, commander-in-chief of ANUS, inform you of why I was not present at yesterday's debate.

I was not invited. In fact, I was never even informed that there would be a debate.

Quite frankly, this is appalling. ANUS has been seeking exposure since its inception, and it has certainly not been unnoticed by the public eye. Perhaps I would understand if The Post had not yet covered my campaign; however, if their recent publication of my campaign letter is any indication, they have been well aware of ANUS's presence. And they have been trying to cover ANUS up.

I hate to say it, but - as preposterous as this may sound - it seems to me that The Post believes that the ANUS campaign is a joke! A trifle, a folly, a satirical jibe at the entire process of Student Senate elections! Let me be clear: ANUS is no laughing matter. We are incredibly serious about our TP's and pushing out meaningful reform for the student body. And yet we have omitted from the debate, scourged from the slate, practically wiped clean from consideration. What if this had happened to BARE? Or SOS? Why did ANUS have to become taboo?

This is BS (Bad Sportsmanship). Absolute BS. And, let me tell you, ANUS is no stranger to BS. But BS is not our friend; no, BS is the worst enema enemy of ANUS. And, given the chance to rise to the occasion, we would gladly wipe out BS from Student Senate forever. Instead, Student Senate has used BS to try to wipe us out.

And we will not stand for that. We will accept no more BS. We will not give up. We will campaign harder. We will table in Baker. We will layer bulletin boards all around town with fliers proclaiming an alternative to the same old ways of running Student Senate. We will spread ANUS through this town like wildfire.

Why?

Because Athens Needs Us. That's why.

Remember to #VoteANUS on April 14-15.
